We know him as the “Prince of Darkness”, we remember him as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. We did crazy things at his concerts, girls threw their underwear on the stage, but one insane guy threw an animal that created one of the most iconic things in the history of the rock.
It was almost 40 years ago, Ozzy Osbourne was performing a solo concert on a stage in Des Moines, Iowa. A guy threw a bat onto the stage. The bat lay motionless, Ozzy picked it up and thinking it was a toy he bite its head off. But the bat was real and years later Ozzy remembers that moment with these words: “For a start, my mouth was instantly full of this warm, gloopy liquid, with the worst aftertaste you could ever imagine. I could feel it staining my teeth and running down my chin.“.
We can say this is the icing on the cake of a non-ordinary rockstar career. But Ozzy Osbourne and his bats are ready for a new challenge in 2022. In fact, he has announced his own NFT collection called CryptoBatz.

The CryptoBatz collection
CryptoBatz is a collection of 9,666 bats creatively directed by Ozzy Osbourne and built by Sutter Systems. Every CryptoBatz has been created following the proportions of the Fibonacci sequence, also called the divine proportion or golden ratio.
These NFTs are stored in the Ethereum Blockchain and have something very special: they can “bite” others NFTs and create a MutantBat that shares the DNA of both NFTs.
They can bite only a limited selection of NFT collections. Their victims could be only the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs, the CrypToadz NFTs, SupDucks NFTs and another project that is still unveiled.
A CryptoBatz can bite only one time, and its victim has to be stored in the same wallet.
The AncientBatz
There are some legendary bats that could “bite” up to 99 times. These are the AncientBatz: with the power to breed 99 MutantBatz.
You can’t be the lucky one that mints an AncientBatz during the CryptoBatz drop, you have to discover them in a “Scavenger hunt”.
Sutter Systems, the team behind CryptoBats has scattered the AncientBatz around the world in hidden locations, not easy to find. But they will release hints and clues to the community, slowly revealing the locations week by week, making them easier to discover as time goes on.
Remember: you have to own a CryptoBatz if you want to reveal an AncientBatz!
When is the CryptoBatz drop?
Sutter Systems hasn’t announced the mint date and time.
But I suppose that the pre-sale or the public sale should be on the 20th of January. Exactly 40 years later the iconic moment in which Ozzy bite the bat head off during the solo concert.
